Tips for Safely Using High-Intensity Laser Therapy During Performance Weeks

When you're in the thick of tech, rehearsals, or show runs, your body is under constant demand. High-intensity laser therapy can be an incredible tool during this time—but like any recovery modality, it’s most effective when used wisely. Here are a few ways to make the most of it:

1. Schedule laser sessions on non-performance or low-demand days. Give your body space to absorb the benefits. Early in the week or on a lighter rehearsal day is ideal—it allows the laser to kickstart healing without encouraging you to push through discomfort onstage.

2. Avoid laser immediately before a show or performance. Laser can make you feel significantly better—sometimes too good. Like taking an NSAID, it may mask pain or inflammation that’s there for a reason. Performing right after a laser session could lead to unintentionally overloading an area that’s still healing.

3. Pair it with intentional recovery work. Laser works best when combined with rest, hydration, tissue work, and movement re-education. Use it to support—not replace—the other elements of your recovery routine.

4. Be transparent with your PT. If you’re in a performance-heavy stretch, let us know. We can adjust the timing, dosage, and frequency of your laser sessions based on what your body is telling us and what your schedule demands.

5. Listen to your body—always. Laser therapy is a tool, not a permission slip. If something is still tender or doesn’t feel right after a session, that’s information—not something to push through. Let’s use those cues to adjust your treatment and load accordingly.

Bottom line? Laser therapy can be a powerful ally for performing artists—when used strategically. At FlySpace, we’ll work with you to make sure it fits your body, your goals, and your performance calendar.
